Virus removal

It is another fine day when you sit down in front of your computer to surf the net. You log in to your e-mail account and see a number of messages. One of them, although from an unknown sender, seems interesting. It has an .exe attachment and a title that says ‘your document’. You click to download and CRASH! Your computer crashes wreaking havoc on all your data!

You’ve just become a victim of a virus – the insidious scourge of the internet. Each day, millions of internet users worldwide grapple with viruses that invade their systems and make their lives miserable. Over a period of time, not only have viruses become more complex and better able to disguise themselves, their effect on your systems have become more crippling too. Earlier viruses appear tame in front of the latest viruses that can not only invade your system, but also read your personal data and use it to tamper with your transactions, records etc. Attacks by viruses are expensive. And virus removal is undoubtedly a critical business need.

Which is exactly why virus removal is such a big business. Conservative estimates put the global virus removal business in the range of billions of dollars. But it is the big five companies that dominate the virus removal landscape. The biggest and most popular by far is Symantec – the makers of the popular Norton AntiVirus virus removal and Internet Security systems.

McAfee is another global multi-national that has made a name for itself in the virus removal business. Their proprietary product – Virus Scan – not just checks and identifies viruses in your system, but also enables complete virus removal thereby ensuring safety and continued security.

Even software giant Microsoft has a comprehensive web portal dedicated to the business of virus removal. When you get to the Microsoft security centre on the web, you can not only downloads diagnostic tools for virus identification, but also patches and security updates to facilitate virus removal. Additionally, the website also provides information on the latest malicious programs and runs a 24-hr help center for critical advice and care.

Virus removal software from companies like Symantec, McAfee and Microsoft not only remove viruses, but also a plethora of other malicious programs like ad ware, spy ware and worms. After all, these too could potentially prove debilitating for your system and hamper your productivity.

But for those who would like to do it themselves, or are not prepared to go in for professional removal tools, there are lots of free virus removal tools available on the net. A simple search reveals that websites like www.f-secure.com, www.spyware-hq.com and www.kaspersky.com offer some comprehensive virus removal tools. While the quality and dependability of these tools needs to be verified, there is no denying that they are yet another weapon in the battle against the virus.

But when you intend to affect virus removal from your system, remember that viruses could come disguised even as free virus removal tools! When in doubt, it is always better to go for a trustworthy branded product. I’m not saying that the free products are no good. Just that you need to be careful and wary when it comes to removing viruses a keeping your system clean.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm an Internet junkie. Whenever I have free time, I like to surf the web looking for some entertaining sites. I also like to download the myriad free (and legal) videos, MP3 samples, programs, demos, and games. These things can keep me occupied for hours on end, so there's never a dull moment when I'm sitting at my monitor.

As you might expect from someone who is constantly online, I have run into a few problems over the years. Since I don't take the time to verify the integrity of each website before I visit it and since I'm sometimes too lazy to scan a download before I open it, I have picked up a few viruses along the way that have completely wiped my hard drive. I lost everything I had on my computer at the time, including financial records, personal documents, e-mails, and digital photos. That's why I now make sure that I have the best anti virus program installed on my computer.

Back when I was just starting to connect to the Internet, I trusted the anti virus program that came pre-packaged with my computer. Usually this offered sufficient protection, but occasionally some malware and spyware still slipped through my defenses. And when we're talking about a Trojan horse or other types of viruses getting past a computer's anti virus program, "occasionally" is simply not acceptable.

So these days, I don't rely on that pre-packaged anti virus program to protect the contents of my computer. Instead, the first thing I do when I purchase a new computer or laptop (and the first thing that I recommend all my friends to do) is to upgrade the anti virus program to one that better suits my surfing habits. Since I'm basically online all the time, I need an anti virus program that automatically updates itself very frequently. That way, I'm assured of having adequate protection against the newest viruses and malicious codes. I also want an anti virus program that comes backed by great customer support just in case I need help configuring the settings to accommodate my surfing habits. I think we can all agree that there's nothing worse than buying some new software and not being able to get any tech support once we've installed it.

If you spend as much time online as I do, then I recommend purchasing the best anti virus program available. Doing so will not only protect the contents of your computer, but also give you peace of mind as you surf and download.
